FOR THE NEW AND GOOD TO BE GREAT.

Every field of the creative arts or Starup is an unforgiving climb. For the purpose of this article, we will use one discipline, Music.
Live performance is unadulterated and direct. It puts the artist in control of that moment in their destiny to demonstrate to a world and audience the result of hours of practice and dogged self belief.
Practice alone, rehearse with the guys, Practice with the guys, rehearse alone, are but just two ingredients of the many needed for the mini steps that make up the life and existence of a musician. Few see or know the backroom workings and mechanics of what it takes to stage ‘The gig’.
Effort, planning, organisation, commitment and discipline to make staging a show look effortless. This while knowing one hitch along the way can ruin months of work. Until the last note is played and “thank you for coming” is said, there could be a power overload while playing, strings can break, the microphone could stop working or a multitude of other things that could crush the spirit of an artist standing in front of a packed room with a disaster slowly unfolding. It is during such unforseen circumstances that professionalism of an artist comes to the fore and the result of hours of practice and rehearsals mean a disaster in front of an audience can be averted.
This in essence is what Shack Entertainment is about. The grass-roots Arts scene, the artists, the backroom people and the fans who do all to keep it going despite the impossible conditions vocational artists have to contend with daily. It is no secret that staging venues are thin on the ground if even existent at all. A Gallery or  Venue is a room with a stage and backstage or room for the workers to prepare, adequate equipment and lighting to enhance the experience for the audience, decent toilet facilities and transport links for happy people to get home quickly and safely after the show.
Not a pub where a two tables are shifted to make space for two guitars and a vocal PA. It cannot be beyond the wit of man, even if they run a dive to have clean toilets for the audience.  It seems apt that the term “Toilet venues” was coined to describe the shame that is the dying London live music venue scene. This is a Guardian newspaper article on the topic of venues in London.
Can the UK’s ‘toilet circuit’ of small music venues survive? From Coldplay to P J Harvey, a lot of big British rock acts started out playing tiny pubs and clubs around the UK. But with many of these venues closing, who will keep the rock’n’roll dream alive?

Independent venues are more than just places to see bands – they’re at the heart of their communities. But if the music industry doesn’t step in soon,we’ll be writing even more obituaries for these vital outposts of culture

It is about time for extremely talented unknown creative artists and musicians to have something specifically of their own to work on their behalf and promote the hard to come by results of their work. No criticism intended, but creatives need to be assured of making a living from their abilities without having to be a tribute act or an imitation of some kind.
